An up and down season for TCU rolls on, as the Horned Frogs get ready to host San Diego at Lupton Stadium this weekend.
TCU sits at 7-5 following Tuesday’s 8-7 loss to UT-Arlington, as the 5-6-1 Toreros come to town. TCU boasts just a 2-3 record at Lupton this season, but hopes to find some consistency this weekend.
That begins for the Frogs on the mound, who – for the first time this season – will use the same starting rotation for the second weekend in a row.
Prior to Tuesday’s loss, TCU’s pitching staff had allowed just six runs over the previous five games, and were powered by their starting arms. Ryan Vanderhei, Kole Klecker, and Cam Brown combined for 17 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed.
TCU’s pitching has been one of the consistent forces for an inconsistent team through the first dozen games of the season, that has struggled defensively and at the plate for significant stretches.
Meanwhile, the Toreros are on a six game losing streak, falling to UC Irvine before getting swept in a four-game series against Oregon. Most recently, San Diego fell to No. 25 Oregon State on Tuesday night.
San Diego holds the all-time record against TCU, 1-0, winning the lone previous matchup 9-6 in 2019.
This is the final weekend before Big 12 play opens for the Frogs, who travel to Norman, Ok. to face Oklahoma next week. TCU will be without a few key players this weekend that Kirk Saarloos hopes to have back ahead of Big 12 play.
