FORT WORTH — TCU practices are now closed to the media at least through the Sept. 2 season opener at Colorado.

Some reporters, though, have to walk from one location to another to get to player interviews, cutting through the Morris Practice Fields as practice ends. In just those few moments it’s easy to tell a difference in the energy level from, say, 10 days ago to Thursday.

Players are hooting — hollering, too — as they close out practice before hitting campus for classes. The guess here is they aren’t excited to get to U.S. History 101.

They’re ready to play the Buffaloes.

“The tension is definitely there,” said running back Emani Bailey, a transfer from Louisiana. “We can definitely feel the energy rising. It’s very positive. I’m ready to rock and roll.”

TCU will hold a mock game at 9 p.m. Friday, this one not open to the public, as coaches attempt to simulate the long wait for the night game at Folsom Field. The Horned Frogs will then go into their game week prep.

Saturday is an off day before five straight days of practice. The Frogs will depart for Colorado next Thursday.

Classes started this week, which threw a wrinkle into practices, but players have been able to adapt to the longer days while also maintaining the level of energy coaches want to see.

“After this first week of school everybody has adjusted,” safeties coach Paul Gonazles said. “I think those guys are locked and loaded and just excited to start hitting somebody else in a different colored jersey. That’s for sure.”

Frogs Today Daily, presented by Dave’s Hot Chicken is ready, too — so much so that today’s show is the last from Schollmaier Coliseum. Shows will shift back to the Flying T Club Studios at Roxo Media House before we launching into our season mode.

Frogs Today has already raised the level of coverage of TCU sports to an unprecedented level, and we’re about to one-up ourselves.
