SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — TCU coach Sonny Dykes said that Horned Frogs players will be wearing a sticker on their helmets Saturday during the Fiesta Bowl as Dykes pays tribute to one of the biggest mentors in his career, late Mississippi State coach Mike Leach.

“We’re going to wear a helmet sticker in remembrance of Coach Leach with a pirate flag on it,” Dykes said Friday morning during the Fiesta Bowl coaches press conference. “So I’m sure there’ll be a little bit of a shoutout to Coach Leach before I take the field, just, again, what he meant to be personally in my life and I certainly wouldn’t be here without his guidance and mentorship and the huge impact he had on my life.”

Leach passed away Dec. 12 after falling ill a day earlier at his home in Starkville, Miss. Dykes was a general assistant in 1997 at Kentucky, where Leach was the offensive coordinator, and Dykes joined Leach as an assistant at Texas Tech in 2000.
