LOS ANGELES — To the naked eye Saturday, and for sure after the film breakdown in the following days, TCU coaches and players knew that the Fiesta Bowl, while thrilling, wasn’t great football.

“I thought we played OK,” TCU coach Sonny Dykes said Tuesday.

He perked up on OK, as if he was sampling a kitchen experiment gone wrong and didn’t want to hurt the chef’s feelings.

Quarterback Max Duggan, the Heisman Trophy runner-up, wasn’t quite as tactful.

“We made enough plays to win the game,” he said. “But it wasn’t like we played spectacular.”
