The adage states that a picture says a thousand words.
To some the one posted Sunday by Ochaun Mathis on his Instragram account might say two, and they aren’t hook ’em.
Mathis, the former TCU defensive end who entered the transfer portal in January, posted several photos from his unofficial visit to Texas, but the last one is garnering the most attention.
It’s of Mathis and former TCU coach Gary Patterson, who is now a special assistant to Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian, and they are flashing the hook ’em sign.
Patterson left the Horned Frogs on Oct. 31 in his 21st season after a meeting with athletic director Jeremiah Donati in which the sides said they mutually agreed to part ways. Patterson was replaced Nov. 29 by former SMU coach Sonny Dykes.
A free agent who wants to be a head coach again, Patterson officially joined Sarkisian’s staff Jan. 21 with an emphasis on analyzing the Longhorns’ porous defense.
The immediate speculation after Mathis entered the portal was that he would follow Patterson to Texas. Mathis is also from Manor, which is just outside of Austin.
Texas is one of five schools in Mathis’ final five along with Nebraska, Ole Miss, USC and Penn State.
