FORT WORTH – On the 17th day of the eighth month, more commonly known as 817 Day in Fort Worth, TCU defeated their cross-town rival SMU 1-0.
Gracie Brian scored TCU’s lone goal in the 22nd minute of the first half.
Goalkeeper Lauren Kellett kept the Ponies off the board, regeristering five saves in the match. Kellett also tied Emily Alvarado’s record for clean sheets with her 21st shutout of her career.
“First game of the season; tough, well-fought game. I’m happy with the results from our group,” coach Eric Bell said. “We will watch the tape and hope to get better, but that’s a quality SMU squad and a cross-town rivalry. We are happy to come away with the victory.”
