What has long been suspected now appears to be about as official as can be. All that’s missing is the announcement that Gary Patterson is now a part of the Texas Longhorns football coaching staff.

In a photo snapped by Texas Basketball Country Twitter account, Patterson, the former TCU football coach, is shown sitting in a suite at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte. Patterson is wearing a Longhorns pullover.

Del Conte was athletic director at TCU from 2009 to 2017 during some of Patterson’s best seasons, and a reunion appears to be in place.

Patterson is expected to become special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian. Patterson, who left TCU on Oct. 31 after being told he would not be retained after the season, will likely help analyze the Longhorns’ defense.

TCU plays at Texas on Nov. 12.
