TCU has moved up to No. 3 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings, jumping Ohio State following the Buckeyes’ loss to Michigan. Georgia remains at No. 1, while Michigan moves up to No. 2. Meanwhile, USC moves up to No. 4.

Ohio State didn’t fall far from their No. 2 ranking, sitting just outside the top four at No. 5. Two-loss Alabama sits at No. 6, with Tennessee at No. 7. Penn State, Clemson, and Kansas State round out the top ten. Alabama is ranked one spot ahead of Tennessee, despite losing to the Volunteers this year and both teams holding records of 10-2.

No. 9 Clemson is the highest-ranked ACC team, meaning that the conference will not have a team in the playoffs this year. The Pac-12 is in danger of the same thing, should USC lose to Utah for a second time this season in the Pac-12 Championship.

The Wildcats’ appearance at No. 10 gives the Frogs a top 10 win on their resume, a good feather in the cap of a strong, undefeated campaign. Texas moved up in the rankings to No. 20 following their 38-27 win over Baylor, giving the Frogs a second win over a currently-ranked opponent.

Georgia and USC have wins over three currently-ranked teams, while Michigan has two.

So, as it always does, the College Football Playoffs will be decided over conference championship season. Can TCU and USC hold on to a playoff spot even if they lose on Saturday? Are Georgia and Michigan locked in regardless of outcome?
