It was a weekend that has never been seen before in the history of NCAA Rifle.
A heroic performance from freshman Julie Johannessen, which saw her set two NCAA records and tie another, propelled TCU to their sixth Patriot Rifle Championship. The Frogs’ aggregate score of 4750 bested Alaska Fairbanks by only one shot.
TCU also claimed their seventh air rifle championship in program history.
The weekend began with the smallbore competition, and TCU put up several solid numbers in the event. Katie Zaun, who had a career best weekend herself, posted a score of 593 out of 600.
Then there was freshman phenom Johannessen. She posted a 598, breaking the NCAA record of 597. A score of 597 had only been shot four times in the history of the sport, making Johannessen’s feat that much more impressive.
