TCU’s new defense and new defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie are both taking root

FORT WORTH — Joe Gillespie folds his arms, leans back in his chair, and smiles. For the self-proclaimed “Texas boy,” it’s good to be home.

It’s January, and he’s sitting in his newly unpacked office. The former Tulsa defensive coordinator and Stephenville native jumped at the chance to coach at TCU alongside Sonny Dykes. For Gillespie, the opportunity had as much to do with the people as it did the school and the location.

“I think you can get caught up in TCU and the university and all the facilities and things of that nature, obviously Big 12, all of that business plays roles in things,” Gillespie said. “At the end of the day it’s who are the people that you’re working with and for?”
