Transfer portal could help TCU carry momentum into next season

TCU has found great success recruiting for the class of 2023, and that includes key additions from the transfer portal (The Associated Press/Ron Jenkins).

A look at the TCU two-deep roster heading into the Fiesta Bowl shows that the Horned Frogs look a little thin at some key spots … next season.

The Frogs’ offense could lose three starting wide receivers, three starting offensive linemen and their best running back, and the Heisman Trophy runner-up has already declared he won’t be back.

The defense doesn’t stand to lose as much, but could lose the Jim Thorpe Award winner, the cornerback on the other side, and the top two in sacks.

The COVID year puts some of the potential losses in question, as does the potential for players to forgo their remaining eligibility to enter the NFL Draft.

But even in the best-case scenario, TCU will have holes that need to be addressed.

Two years ago, coach Sonny Dykes would have had his hands full. Now, though, immediate help is available in the transfer portal.

If the past week has been any indication, the portal is going to keep TCU toward the top of the Big 12 in 2022.
